Given below are some facts for iron and magnesium supplements. Facts concerning Iron Supplements: Iron is one of the most important ingredients required by almost every life form on earth. It is also one of those metals which are present in large quantities on Earth. Dietary iron comes in two forms: nonheme and heme. Heme iron can be obtained from animal foods whereas nonheme is obtained from plant foods. Foods having high iron content are soybeans, oysters, chicken liver. Deficiency of iron in its worst form causes anemia. Daily dosage of iron differs from age to age and gender to gender. For example, for a male between the ages of 14 to 18, 11mg per day is recommended whereas for a female in the same age group, 15 mf per day is recommended. Facts concerning Magnesium Supplements: Large quantities of magnesium can be found in our body in bones and body tissues. It is also required for many chemical reactions that take place in the body. Green vegetables, peas, beans and nuts are some of the good sources from which magnesium can be obtained. Daily intake for a male in the age group 14-18 is 410 mg per day and for a female it is 310 mg per day. Loss of appetite, vomiting and fatigue are some of the symptoms due to lack of magnesium in the body. |
