What Does Glucosamine Do?

Glucosamine is a substance which is a derived from carbohydrates and are different form the normal body sugars. It is most commonly found in body parts like kidney, liver as well as body joints.

Osteoarthritis is the most common type of disorders found today where the cartilage of the knee degenerates and swells up resulting in excruciating pain in the joints. This is because in the absence of cartilage the bones rub against each other.  Glucosamine sulfate which is the constituent of glycoaminoglycans is useful in treating osteoarthritis especially of the knee joints. Studies have shown that arthritis of jaw is cured by treating it with glucosamine. 

Glucosamine is also useful substance for getting health skin as it produces hyaluronic acid which heals all the injuries of the skin. Patients who have undergone surgery are given doses of glucosamine so that their stitches get healed quickly. It is also used as a part of skin care products because it removes all the dark spots and discoloration of the skin. It also heals unwanted pigments, scars and wrinkles. It is also a key constituent responsible for formation of mucous which forms the internal lining of the urinary, digestive and respiratory tracts to provide lubrication effect and prevent wear and tear.
