What Vitamins Are Good for Eye Sight?

Vitamin A, lutein, Vitamin C, Vitamin B2 and niacin are essential for good eyesight. Vitamin A is found in foods like carrots, papaya, yellow vegetables, spinach, butter, cheese etc. This vitamin is essential for good eye sight. It also aids in production of mucus secretions which keep the eyes hydrated and prevents infection.

 Lack of Vitamin A causes conditions like night blindness and dry eyes. Foods rich in Vitamin A also contain lutein and zeaxanthin, nutrients which are very essential for eye sight. These filter out harmful UV rays and protect the eyes. Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant. It protects the lens of he eyes from oxidation and also promotes healing of the cornea. Deficiency of this vitamin is associated with cataracts and poor vision.

 Vitamin C is found in foods like organs, lime, broccoli, tomatoes, sweet potatoes etc. Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) and niacin keep the tissues of the eye healthy and promote good eye sight. They are found in foods like vegetables, cheese, milk, liver and so on. There are also eye drops and vitamin supplements for eye health.  Taking general multivitamins unnecessarily is not advisable. Your doctor can recommend a multivitamin supplement suited for maintaining good eye sight.
