What Supplements Are Good for Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is referred to an increase in pressure in one or both eyes. This condition can eventually lead to blindness. There are two types of glaucoma. One develops slowly over time whereas the other occurs suddenly and causes lots of pain and discomfort. Nutrition supplements play an important role in combating glaucoma.

Vitamin C is very useful in treatment of glaucoma. It prevents inflammation, helps in tissue repair and improves vision. It also has antioxidant properties. Flaxseed oil is also useful in treating glaucoma. It is rich in an omega 3 fatty acid called alpha-linoleic acid. This fatty acid helps reduce inflammation. It is metabolized to form essential fatty acids called DHA and EPA. There are essential for heart health and also helps lower blood pressure. 

Alpha lipoic acids also help in combating glaucoma. They act as antioxidants and boost the immune system. They are soluble in both fat and water and work throughout the body. Herbs like turmeric can be used to treat glaucoma. It has antioxidant properties and also relieves inflammation. Bilberry, aloe vera, germanium and ginko biloba have also been used successfully to counter this condition. Teas made using fennel and chamomile also help relieve the signs of glaucoma.
