What Is the Difference between Vitamins and Minerals?

Vitamins and minerals are an essential part of daily diet for maintaining healthy and fit body. These can be easily consumed through our daily food intake and helps in proper functioning of the body. Though both vitamins and minerals are needed for maintaining a healthy body but they both are different from each other on various grounds. The major difference between vitamins and minerals is that the former is an organic compound whereas the later is an inorganic compound. Vitamins come from animals and plants whereas our body gets minerals from water and soil.

There are mainly two types of vitamins which include fat soluble and water soluble. Minerals are divided into trace minerals and macro minerals. Talking in terms of chemical form, the minerals are simpler as compared to vitamins. All types of vitamins are required by the body for proper growth and functioning whereas on the other hand all minerals are not needed. Some of the necessary vitamins include Vitamin B, C, D, E and K whereas important minerals include manganese, phosphorus, sodium, copper, zinc, iodine, calcium and others. Thus we can call vitamins as chemical compounds and mineral as chemical elements. They both perform different functions on the body and are an essential requirement for growth.
